Did You Know About FTLA’s Board Member Nominating Committee?
(article 9, contributed by Patti Keith)

The Nominating Committee plays a central role in sustaining a strong and representative Board of Directors. Our bylaws place this responsibility with members who are not currently serving on the board to ensure the nomination process remains open, fair, and grounded in the interests of the full membership.

This year’s committee—Jimmy Songer, William Turner, and Devin Noor—has taken on the important task of identifying members who are willing and prepared to contribute to the governance of our organization. A thoughtful nominating committee helps cultivate future leadership, encourage broader participation, and ensure the board reflects the diversity of experience, skills, and perspectives within our membership.

An effective committee also seeks out individuals who have shown commitment, interest, or potential—including those who may not volunteer on their own. By doing so, they help strengthen board continuity while welcoming new voices and ideas. This process supports healthy organizational growth, transparency, and trust in our governance.

Our committee’s work ultimately shapes the choices presented to members at the Annual Meeting (May 2nd, 2026). A strong slate of candidates gives members a meaningful opportunity to select leaders who will guide the organization responsibly in the years ahead.

As we approach this year’s election, I encourage every member to give real consideration to saying YES if the nominating committee reaches out. Serving on the board is one of the most meaningful ways to help shape the direction of our organization, and even if you have never served before, your perspective may be exactly what the board needs.
